July 2020 marked the beginning of the second peak of the coronavirus transmission in Melbourne. Melbourne was heading into a second lockdown after only having some relative easing of restrictions for about 4 weeks. High stress levels for everyone and holiday plans and opportunities were becoming increasingly difficult. We just made it by driving over the border into NSW with 4 hours to spare before the the border was closed . We spent 2 glorious weeks in Byron Bay to breathe and recharge before heading back into further lockdowns and higher rates of community COVID transmission, + masks in Victoria. This holiday was vital for me and I had to paint. I experimented with a new medium- gouache and pastel on paper, painting most days This collection represents my experimentation, my feeling of freedom and temporary respite from pandemic life.This section also has some minor smaller works

Outback Australia

Otway Ranges and Apollo Bay series

Apollo Bay is a small fishing village on the Great Ocean Road with a magnificent surf beach on one side and the beautiful rainforests and mountains of the Otway Ranges on the other. I grew up having my summer holidays here, swimmimg in the freezing pounding surf, bodysurfing, surfing , boogie boarding and skiffle boarding with my friends and family . Fishing off the rocks at the rocky outcrop we called the "knoll", jumping off those rocks into the surf coming through the small rocky channels was so much fun. This part of the world represents for me hot summery holidays and salty days with family and cold freezing dramatic surf of Winter, tree ferns and gumtrees and the eucalyptus rainforest smell and memories of our house in Forrest, nestled in the Otway ranges.

Manhattan, New York City. especially in Winter. The shapes of the wintry bare trees in Central Park and long shadows are just so beautiful to me.
